Each year, teams of two budding robot integrators compete to be crowned the best talent the country has to offer. Competitors up and down the country take part in an Entry Stage and the Qualifiers, to secure a place in the National Finals at FANUC UK’s Open House.
Whether you're a novice eager to embark on a thrilling learning journey or an experienced programmer seeking to enhance your skills, our Industrial Robotics Skill competition is the perfect gateway into the world of automation!
Our competition isn't just about pitting your skills against others; it's an immersive experience that offers hands-on training from the industry leader in factory automation. You'll have the unique opportunity to learn from FANUC's most experienced trainers, gaining insights and techniques that are at the forefront of industrial robotics.
The journey doesn't end at the national level. Winners of the WorldSkills UK Industrial Robotics Challenge will earn their place in Squad UK, representing the nation on the global stage. The pinnacle awaits in Tokyo 2028, where you'll compete with the best from around the world and showcase your talent to an international audience!

This is the first stage of the competition, held remotely using FANUC's ROBOGUIDE Simulation Software. We will be looking for teams who can demonstrate the ability to: • Follow instructions and procedures • Communicate ideas and information • Pay attention to detail • Work effectively together in a team
Qualifiers
This task will build on the skills gained in the entry stage and translate them into programming in real world situations, using FANUC robots. There will be the chance for both members of the team to get hands-on experience with the robots before working together to produce the final submission. This stage takes place at an Industry trade show event.
Training
Following the release of results for the Qualifier stage in early July 2025, the five finalist teams will be given the opportunity to attend a training week at FANUC's state of the art Academy. This will give successful teams a chance to work with experienced FANUC robot engineers and learn the basic health & safety considerations when working with industrial robots.
National Finals
Building on the skills gained in the first two stages there will be elements of offline programming, CAD, and documentation with elements of real world applications. Judges are looking for technical competency but are also briefed to look for excellence amongst competitors and will therefore take into account skills such as time management, working under pressure and communication skills.
Internationals
The Industrial Robotics National Finals also form part of the selection process for WorldSkills International competitions. Winners from the finals will be invited to form part of Squad UK, where they will be trained by WorldSkills' International Training Managers in preparation to compete in Tokyo 2028.
